Documenting career turning points through photography and conversation
The CoLAB:
Careers + Photography
What is it?
Turning Points is a creative project about career change.
We're interested in the moments when people decide to take a different path. Through conversations, interviews and photography, we explore what happened, why it happened, and what came next.
Each story is different, but the questions are often the same. What made someone change direction? Was it planned or unexpected? What did they learn along the way?
By sharing these stories, we hope others might find useful insights, a little reassurance, or perhaps the confidence to make a change of their own.
Background
Ben has spent years helping people think about their careers, spotting patterns, opportunities and common challenges.
Both Ben and I have experienced significant turning points in our own lives and careers. Over many conversations, we realised how valuable these stories can be when shared openly.
So we decided to do something about it.
A few conversations became an idea. The idea became a project. We bought some recording equipment, invited a few friends to take part, and started documenting the journey.
Where might it go?
We're not entirely sure, and that's part of the appeal.
Perhaps it becomes a collection of stories. Perhaps it turns into a podcast. Perhaps one day it becomes a book.
A book filled with honest conversations and thoughtful photography. Something to curl up with, reflect on, and maybe use to make a plan of your own.
For now, we're simply enjoying the process and seeing where it leads.
